Who is responsible for determining the amount of eligible contributions?

The HSA accountholder is solely responsible for determining their eligibility for an HSA and their contributions limit during any year. Individuals are encouraged to speak with their tax adviser about these matters. As custodian, UMB will provide the IRS guidelines and will not allow any accountholder to contribute more than the annual limit for family HDHP coverage, plus catch-up. However, UMB has no responsibility for determining or advising an accountholder whether any contribution complies with the requirements and limitations of the Internal Revenue Code when that individual’s limit is less than that amount.
